Beckie, our P. E. teacher, made this year's field day one to remember! See the fun the fourth graders at Riley had!

Apache's Snakes

Real-life Reptiles

Each year Apache, Mrs. Zuckerman's father, brings in his snakes to educate the third and fourth graders. Here he is letting students, from Room 207, touch one.

Chapman Library Field Trip

Reading Goes Fourth Program

We visited Chapman Library for their Reading Goes Fourth Program. They gave us a tour of the building and then talked about their summer reading program. They gave each student a book and promised another just by returning to the library and mentioning that you'd attended with your teacher. Remember Room 207, "Gotta keep reading!"

Mr. Kelly's "How To" Video

How to Turn on a School Computer

As a class we've been working on creating "How To" videos. First we created a script, then we took video footage with Flip cameras, and now we're putting it into Windows Movie Maker to create the videos (that we'll share here on the class blog). We're excited to finish and share our work. Here's Mr. Kelly's "How To" video.

Percy Jackson: The Lightning Thief

February 24, 2010

As is tradition with my class, we choose a popular childrens' chapter book with a movie coming out, read the book, see the movie, and make some comparisons. This year we went to see Percy Jackson and the Olympians: The Lightning Thief (currently one of my favorite books)! As usual, the movie differed from the book, but was full of action, and the class thoroughly enjoyed it. We greatly appreciate the Gateway Megaplex Theaters for giving us our own private showing, and Salote Tukuafu & the Riley Apple Club for funding the field trip.

Living Planet Aquarium Visit

The Water Cycle in Action

We recently had representatives from the Living Planet Aquarium visit Riley and talk to 4th grade students about the water cycle and the wetlands habitat. Watch the iMovie and see if you can recall the 3 main parts of the water cycle and what occurs.

*Bonus points if you can tell me where Utah ranks as driest state in the U. S. (hint - there's a picture that has the answer in the video)

Youth Teaching Youth - Rocks

Yeah, it's been awhile (between posts)!

Linda Gillis, from the Utah Museum of Natural History, and students from Glendale Middle School made their second visit to Room 207 and presented hands-on activities about rocks. Check out the video below and see if you can correctly answer the quiz at the end. Good luck!
